D League -Adult Learn to Play

Iceland Adult Developmental League

Interested in learning the game? This is for you! The Iceland Adult Developmental League is a year-round program aimed at introducing hockey to adults in the greater Hampton Roads community who possess limited or no ice hockey experience. The program focuses on learning the game of hockey while playing the games.

Teams are chosen prior to each game by coaches based on experience level and capability. Each game is facilitated by on-ice coaches. Prior to the game, coaches facilitate drills focused on basic skills. During the games, coaches may stop play to point out situations or opportunities. All instruction is provided by the Iceland coaching team.

Each season is 11 weeks long consisting of 4 full-hour practices and 7 facilitated practice/games. Players may register for the entire season or join us at any time. In each practice and game, the coaches will focus on game-play situations, including:

· Team-focused play

· Offensive and defensive strategies

· Power play and penalty kill situations

· Position responsibilities in defensive, neutral and offensive zones

· Shooting, passing, stickhandling and puck possession skills

Full equipment is required to play in the league. If you don't have hockey gear or need to upgrade your current gear, there are several local and on-line retailers that carry everything you need. Here is your basic checklist:
